Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
It is his initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of that year.
Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
